... leafing through the pages of the book by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry and dwelling on every illustration, I gradually became convinced that I had discovered a take on the book that was new to me but not to the author: The Little Prince was also a disgest of astronomy and of love for the star-spangled sky. That is what prompoted me to narrate the adventures of the Little Astronomer Prince in these few pages. I am quite sure that it is perfectly legitimate to add that epithet to the character loved by children and grown-ups the world over, given the number and the variety of astronomincal references in the original tale.

The author

FrancescoFrancesco Palla read physics at the University of Rome - La Sapienza, where he specialised in astrophysics. Winning a European Space Agency study grand, he went on to work for two years at Cornell University, Ithaca (NY), and in 1982 he was summoned to the Osservatorio Astrofisico di Arcetri in Florence by its director. Francesco pursued research in various fields, including star formation, the physical and chemical processes of interstellar matter and cosmology. He was Director of the Osservatorio Astrofisico di Arcetri from 2006 to 2011 and was about to be appointed President of the European Astronomical Society when he died prematurely in Geneva in 2016. In addition to his work as a scientist, he always devoted an enormous amount of time and effort to popularising astronomy in schools and with broader audiences.
