Must everything start out important to be important or can something become important? And what is important?
Kim Williams writes about the author:
Karla Layden was a woman of many talents: she sang and wrote captivating stories, and was an excellent catechist. In 1995 she told me that she had written a story for Christmas, and asked me to do the illustrations for it. Then, tragedy struck. She fought courageously against Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Even during the treatment she was an active supporter of the “Visible Ink” program of the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center of New York, which offers patients the opportunity to express themselves through writing, taking advantage of the help of expert authors who act as tutors. Karla left us in 2015, but her story and the drawings were returned to me, as she had asked. In remembrance of her I decided to bring her voice to print. Through her writing her star continues to accompany us.
